Yorkshire Terrier

Nicknamed the Yorkie, this dog is happy and energetic and incredibly lovable. They are very confident in their appearance and devoted to their owners. Although they are considered a lap dog, they will only sit still for so long. Especially as puppies, they love to run and play and are very curious. This breed loves people and craves human companionship. They are generally 8 to 9 inches tall and about 4 to 7 pounds. They have a pretty low-maintenance coat that only needs to be brushed and cut every so often; their coat can be blue and gold, black and gold, blue and tan, or black and tan.

Puli

Like the Yorkie, the Puli is a very high-energy breed and is incredibly loyal. Don’t underestimate them though, despite their small size they are considered great watch dogs due to their incredible confidence. They are very sweet and loving and will be very affectionate towards those they know; this breed is also very sensitive to human moods so if you’re sad, this dog will know and try to comfort you. Their coat is generally pretty high-maintenance as it needs to be brushed daily; their coat can either be very curly or wavy and has a double coat that can be gray, black, or white. As an adult, their curly hair turns into tight ringlets. They can be 15 to 18 inches tall and weigh 20 to 35 pounds.

Phalene

This breed is the best of both worlds. While they are very energetic and love to play outdoors, they will also spoil you with affection and puppy kisses. This dog loves to cuddle and is a very calm and gentle companion. This breed isn’t considered to be very yappy but they will sound the alarm if they think something weird is happening so they also make a great watchdog. This breed sheds a lot so, while their coat can be very low-maintenance, you’ll probably want to brush them daily to reduce the shedding. They can be 8 to 11 inches tall and weigh about 8 to 10 pounds with a medium-length, silky-straight coat. They’re always multicolored so they’re aesthetically pleasing with patches of white, black, red, tan, brown, and gray.

English Toy Spaniel

This dog is very loyal and will bond with his closest caretaker. This breed, generally, only bonds extensively with one person and will smother them with love and cuddling. This breed is very eager to please their owner and will do just about anything to get their attention so be sure to not leave them alone for too long or they’ll cause havoc around the home. They are between 9 and 10 inches tall and weigh about 8 to 14 pounds. They have a medium-length, silky-wavy coat that needs to be brushed occasionally. They can be solid or multicolored with red, black, tan, or a combination of the aforementioned colors.

Maltese

This breed loves to play with their owner. If they’re not playing, the next best place for them is curled up on your lap as they are highly affectionate. If left alone and ignored for too long they become very yappy and will bark until you give them attention. This breed is gorgeous and known for their long, silky coats but when they’re playing outside they’re known to be very rambunctious and trouble-makers so they will probably jump straight into a puddle of mud if you aren’t watching. This breed can be 8 to 10 inches tall weighing 4 to 7 pounds. Their coat is pretty low maintenance only needs a brush and cut every so often and they generally only come in one of two colors, white or a very light tan.

Papillon

Papillons make great therapy dogs due to their incredible friendliness towards anyone they come into contact with. They’re known to greet guests with many kisses although they are also very loyal to their owner and will choose them over anyone else. They love to curl up on their owner’s lap and follow them around the home. This breed is very easy to train and is even great with small children. Papillons are usually 8 to 11 inches tall and weigh about 8 to 10 pounds. Their coat comes in a variety of colors and are usually multicolored. They need the occasional brushing but you will more than likely find yourself brushing them more due to how much they shed.

Pomeranian

Pomeranians, affectionately called Poms, are another great therapy dog. They are a loyal and devoted breed that can be taken just about anywhere due to their small size. This breed is very independent but is also known to cling to their owners and will give the warmest of welcomes when you come home. If left alone for too long they are known to get a bit spiteful and wreak havoc on your home. This breed is also very territorial and is highly aware of their adorable appearance because they are very cocky. Poms are usually 8 to 11 inches long and can weigh as little as 3 pounds up to 7 pounds. They also have a very thick, double-layered coat that sheds a ton. After brushing them you may find that you can make a stuffed animal replica out of their hair. They can be solid or two-toned with a wide variety of colors.

Toy Poodle

This breed becomes attached to not just their main caretaker but the entire family. They are very energetic and love attention and affection. This breed can be very spiteful if left alone for too long but they are a great family dog that will cuddle with anyone who gives them the most attention. They are very suspicious of strangers and are a great watchdog but if you have a lot of people coming and going they can be very yappy. The Toy Poodle only needs to be brushed occasionally and they don’t shed much at all. They are also hypoallergenic and about 10 inches tall and 7 to 9 pounds. Their coat is usually solid and can be a variety of colors.
